About us

1.5 million men and women face danger every day to keep our global economy afloat. In this port we care for seafarers of all ranks, nationalities and beliefs. With our chaplain, staff and volunteers we offer practical, emotional and spiritual support to seafarers through ship visits, centres and a range of welfare and support services.

Mission to Seafarers South

The Mission to Seafarers South Tees Station is deeply embedded in the River Tees’ integrated maritime community. Many of our team work on this vibrant and busy river and therefore have deep understanding of seafarers.

Our minibus can bring seafarers to the newly decorated Centre. We have Covid-19 precautions in place and a full cleaning regime.

We aim to operate a daily evening service of picks ups and returns for all the South Tees berths and we have a bus timetable and bus stops to assist this together with dedicated telephone numbers.

Recently we have offered every seafarer the opportunity to go for vaccination, assisted by our Port Health, NHS and Emergency Planning colleagues.

In our Centre we can serve seafarers with drinks and snacks, toiletries, phone and top up cards. Seafarers can use our computers, or their own. Wi fi access is free. We can take seafarers to supermarkets, places of worship, and, of course, to vaccination centres.

We have a chapel, a large television, pool and darts, guitars, an organ. All books, DVDS, and items of clothing are free of charge.

Stella Maris

Stella Maris is the largest ship-visiting network in the world. We improve the lives of seafarers and fishers through our network of local chaplains and seafarer centres, expert information, advocacy, and spiritual support.

The local Chaplain for the Tees is Deacon Peter Barrigan (07713 924504). He and his team of dedicated ship visitors visit vessels on both sides of the Tees seven days a week and use the South Tees Mission to Seafarers Renault Trafic in their work. They take seafarers to the supermarket and to Mass and other forms of worship when they can, and, recently, have transported seafarers for their Covid 19 vaccinations.
